Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said US efforts to contain rising global oil prices have failed to stop the increase, arguing that Washington’s measures will not reverse the upward trend in crude prices.
In a post on X, Qalibaf said the US Treasury would use its available measures one by one in an attempt to bring oil prices down. However, he said the measures would not change the direction of crude oil prices.
Qalibaf listed what he described as Washington’s tools for addressing the rise in oil prices, including what he alleged were misleading reports through Axios, market intervention, the release of strategic oil reserves and other measures.
He said the United States would try all these methods but would still be unable to reverse the rise in oil prices. Qalibaf also suggested that developments in oil prices should not be presented as predictable.
His remarks came amid heightened tensions involving Iran and concerns over the potential impact of regional developments on global energy markets.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran would continue resisting aggression with full force until those responsible were brought to what he described as “complete regret.”
Pezeshkian said Iran had consistently opposed war and considered avoiding conflict important for protecting public interests and regional security. He said Iran had so far defended itself against aggression and would continue to resist with full force while protecting the rights of the Iranian people.
The Iranian president stressed that Tehran was not seeking war but would not retreat from defending itself or protecting its national interests in the face of any aggression.
