ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday praised Pakistan’s security forces for what he described as a successful operation against terrorists near Qalat on the Chaman-Karachi N-25 highway.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, security forces conducted a timely and effective operation, killing five terrorists and safely rescuing 23 hostages from a terrorist hideout.
The prime minister commended the security forces for thwarting what he described as attempts by terrorists to disrupt the peaceful movement of people on the national highway, carry out kidnappings for ransom, engage in extortion and seize vehicles.
Sharif also praised the forces for recovering six trucks, three buses and two vehicles from the terrorists’ possession, along with a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the operation demonstrated the professional capabilities of the security forces and their ability to respond to threats on a major national highway.
The prime minister said decisive operations against terrorism would continue under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam. He also reiterated the government’s stated commitment to eliminating terrorism that he said was being carried out with foreign patronage and assistance.
The operation took place along the N-25, a key highway connecting Chaman with Karachi and serving as an important route in Balochistan.
The Prime Minister’s Office did not provide further details in the statement about the identities of the five militants killed, the circumstances of the hostage rescue or the location of the recovered weapons and explosives.
