Charles Spencer’s latest comments about King Charles and Princess Diana have renewed attention on reported tensions surrounding the British royal family.
Prince Harry and Charles Spencer have come under renewed scrutiny amid fresh claims about tensions within the British royal family and longstanding disagreements surrounding Princess Diana’s death.
Royal commentator Tom Bower has alleged that Spencer has developed an alliance with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aimed at damaging the reputation of the monarchy. However, the claim remains Bower’s interpretation, and neither Harry nor Spencer has publicly confirmed that they are working together against the royal family.
The latest discussion follows remarks by Spencer about a conversation he said he had with King Charles after Diana’s death.
Speaking to BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg on Friday, Spencer recalled what he described as a heated exchange with the then-Prince Charles. According to Spencer, Charles became extremely angry during the conversation and strongly criticised what he viewed as a lack of duty within the family.
Spencer said the future king spoke at length during the conversation and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of members of the royal family.
He recalled being shocked by the remarks and said he eventually told Charles that he could not believe what he had heard before ending the telephone call.
The comments have brought renewed attention to the relationship between Diana’s family and the royal household, particularly in the context of the tensions that have surrounded the royal family since her death.
Diana, the former wife of King Charles, died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997. Her death and its aftermath have remained subjects of public interest for decades, while relationships between members of her family and the royal household have continued to attract media attention.
Bower’s comments have added another layer to the latest discussion by suggesting that Spencer and Harry have formed an alliance against the monarchy. However, there is no public confirmation from either man that such an arrangement exists.
