Sources report the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan in Lahore, but independent confirmation from police or major news outlets was not immediately available.
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan was reportedly arrested by police in Lahore on Sunday, according to a report citing sources, although the development had not been independently confirmed by police or major news organisations at the time of publication.
The reported arrest comes as Aleema Khan faces multiple legal proceedings, including cases linked to protests and violence. She has also previously been subject to arrest warrants in cases pending before anti-terrorism courts.
On Sept. 5, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court extended until Oct. 6 the interim bail of Aleema Khan and several other PTI leaders in cases related to the May 9 violence and arson. Aleema and her sister, Uzma Khan, appeared before the court during those proceedings.
Separately, an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad declared Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan proclaimed offenders in July in a case related to an Oct. 4, 2024, protest and issued perpetual arrest warrants against them after repeated non-appearance.
The latest report of Aleema Khan’s arrest therefore comes against the backdrop of several pending cases and court proceedings. An Islamabad High Court report submitted earlier this month said three cases were registered against Aleema and Uzma Khan with Islamabad Police, while one inquiry involving both sisters was pending with the Federal Investigation Agency.
Aleema Khan has remained publicly active in connection with matters involving her brother. On Sept. 16, she spoke to reporters outside Adiala Jail after she and other family members were reportedly denied permission to meet Imran Khan.
