Imran Khan’s sisters Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained in Lahore as PTI prepares for its September 27 protest and march toward Islamabad.
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday claimed that former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan’s sisters, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, had been taken into custody as authorities intensified action against the party ahead of its planned Sept. 27 protest and march toward Islamabad.
The reported detentions came a day after Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan was detained for 30 days under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960. Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz issued the detention order on Sept. 20, according to reports and a copy of the order cited by local media.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a post on X that Punjab police had taken Uzma and Noreen into custody along with their children and Aleema Khan’s sons. He alleged that the family members were placed in an armored vehicle and taken away.
The allegations initially could not be independently verified. However, Dunya News later reported that Uzma and Noreen had been detained for 30 days under Section 3 of the MPO on the Lahore deputy commissioner’s orders, citing police sources. It reported that the two women were taken from Aleema Khan’s residence along with their nephews, who were later released.
PTI lawyer Awais Younas Chaudhry also said that all three of Imran Khan’s sisters had been taken into custody. He said Uzma and Noreen had initially been confined to their homes before being taken away.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s son Kasim Khan alleged that authorities had entered the homes of his aunts and cousins and forced them into vehicles without explaining the reasons for the arrests or disclosing their whereabouts.
PTI has condemned the reported arrests, describing the action as a violation of fundamental rights and alleging political victimisation. These characterisations are the party’s claims and have not been independently established.
