Xiaomi has confirmed major Super Pixel 2.0 upgrades for the Xiaomi 18 Pro, including 4,000-nit brightness, full RGB pixels and hardware-level privacy protection.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will feature an upgraded Super Pixel 2.0 display with hardware-level privacy protection, adding a new layer of screen privacy to its upcoming flagship smartphone.
The company announced the display technology ahead of its September 23 launch event, scheduled for 7 p.m. China time, or 4 p.m. in Pakistan. Xiaomi had previously been linked to a Samsung-style privacy display through reports that emerged in June, but this marks the first official confirmation of the feature.
The Super Pixel 2.0 panel includes four major upgrades: an M11 light-emitting system, a new green light-emitting material, a full RGB pixel arrangement and hardware-level privacy protection.
According to Xiaomi, the new green light-emitting material improves luminous efficiency by 20%, while the display can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. Peak brightness generally refers to short-duration highlights rather than the level maintained during normal everyday use.
Xiaomi also says the full RGB pixel arrangement preserves image sharpness by giving each pixel its own red, green and blue sub-pixels. The company claims the panel can deliver clarity comparable to a 2K display while consuming roughly the same amount of power as a 1.5K panel.
A 1.5K display normally requires less power because it drives fewer pixels than a 2K screen. Xiaomi’s approach is therefore aimed at combining high visual clarity with lower display power consumption.
The company also announced on Sept. 20 that a new screen packaging process reduces the bezels to 0.99mm. The launch material lists the five key display features for both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, indicating that the two models will share the same display technology.
The main battery difference between the two models is also notable, with the Xiaomi 18 Pro reportedly carrying a 7,000mAh battery and the Pro Max featuring an 8,500mAh battery.
However, Xiaomi has not yet explained how its hardware-level privacy protection works. Such technology can restrict the viewing angle of a display at the hardware level, but the company has not disclosed the specific implementation or its potential effect on image quality.
An August leak described a related software feature called Smart Privacy Display. It reportedly allows users to create groups of apps and apply different privacy settings to them. The leaked information also suggested automatic privacy activation for passwords, payments, fund transfers and messages. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed those details.
According to Sammy Fans, the leaked settings appeared in a Global ROM, although this does not establish whether the privacy-enabled display itself will be available on international models.
Xiaomi has also confirmed a 2nm chip and a Leica camera system featuring two 200MP sensors for the Xiaomi 18 series, although the processor has not yet been named.
The Sept. 23 launch is taking place during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, which runs from Sept. 22 to 24. Xiaomi is expected to reveal full specifications, pricing and availability at the event, including whether the new display technology will be offered outside China.
