Police say a man posing as a CCD inspector allegedly offered Rs50,000 to register a false case in Laddhewala Warraich.
A man allegedly posing as a Counter Crime Department (CCD) inspector was arrested in Gujranwala after he allegedly offered Rs50,000 to a police station clerk to register a false case, police said.
The incident took place in the Laddhewala Warraich area, where the suspect, identified as Mian Amir, allegedly approached police station clerk Naeem and introduced himself as a CCD inspector. According to police, he offered Naeem Rs50,000 and asked him to register a case against a person over an alleged rape involving a woman from Sialkot.
Police said an investigation into the matter revealed that the requested case was allegedly part of an attempt to counter an existing case registered in Sialkot against the woman’s brother, identified as Kashif.
According to police, a case involving alleged rape had already been registered against Kashif in Sialkot. Investigators said the attempt to register another case in Laddhewala Warraich was allegedly aimed at countering that case through a false complaint.
Further investigation also established, according to police, that Mian Amir was not a CCD inspector and had allegedly been posing as a police officer.
Police subsequently arrested Mian Amir and the woman, identified as Aneeka, and registered a case against them. Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
The allegations against the suspects have not been established in court, and the investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery attempt and proposed case registration.
