Barrister Taimur has challenged the detention orders of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi before the Lahore High Court.
LAHORE: The detention orders issued against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s three sisters Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi have been challenged before the Lahore High Court.
The petitions were filed through Barrister Taimur, with the Punjab government, Home Department, Lahore deputy commissioner and other relevant authorities named as respondents.
The legal challenge comes after authorities detained Imran Khan’s sisters under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law in Lahore. According to reports published Monday, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained for 30 days under Section 3 of the MPO following recommendations from police, while Aleema Khan had been detained a day earlier.
Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were subsequently shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, where Aleema Khan had also been transferred following her detention.
The detention orders have been issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner. Reports said the orders concerning Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were issued following a police recommendation under Section 3 of the MPO.
The development comes ahead of PTI’s announced nationwide protest and planned march toward Islamabad on Sept. 27. The party has said the protest is aimed at demanding Imran Khan’s release and calling for constitutional supremacy.
The latest court challenge will place the legality of the detention orders before the Lahore High Court. The petition names the provincial government and relevant administrative authorities as respondents, seeking judicial relief against the orders.
The case follows a series of developments involving members of Imran Khan’s family in Lahore. Aleema Khan was detained on Sunday under the MPO and transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail. Her two sons, Shahrez Khan and Sher Shah, were also briefly taken into custody but were later released, according to her lawyer.
The Lahore High Court will now consider the legal challenge to the detention orders concerning the three sisters.
