PM Shehbaz Sharif meets Pakistani youth and community representatives in New York, highlighting IT, artificial intelligence, education and skills development.
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met separately with delegations of Pakistanis living in the United States and Pakistani youth during his visit to New York, inviting young professionals and community members to contribute ideas and play an active role in the country’s development.
The youth delegation included professionals and representatives from the health sector, information technology, artificial intelligence, social entrepreneurship and various youth non-governmental organizations.
Welcoming the delegation, Sharif invited Pakistani youth to offer proposals for improvement in different sectors and contribute to Pakistan’s development.
“Talented Pakistani youth living abroad are a source of pride for me and the entire nation,” the prime minister said, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sharif said he firmly believed that Pakistan’s youth could change the country’s future. He highlighted government initiatives aimed at empowering young people through information technology, artificial intelligence and training in modern skills.
The prime minister also referred to initiatives launched during his tenure as chief minister of Punjab, including laptops and scholarships for talented youth and educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged students through the Danish Schools program.
He said the government was continuing those efforts at the national level and was working to establish a Danish University to provide international-standard education alongside the education already being offered to economically disadvantaged children through Danish Schools.
“We welcome your suggestions for the development of Pakistan’s youth,” Sharif told the delegation.
Members of the youth delegation expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives for young people, particularly measures related to information technology and improving ease of doing business, according to the PMO.
The meetings were attended by Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme; Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Bilal Bin Saqib; Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad; Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Ahmed Sheikh; Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media, Musharraf Zaidi; Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Chairman Syed Qamar Raza; Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Managing Director Afzal Bhatti; and relevant senior officials.
The meetings took place during Sharif’s visit to New York, where he is participating in engagements related to the 2026 United Nations General Assembly session.
