PTA has reshuffled senior leadership across consumer protection, licensing, enforcement, ICT, audit and other key departments, with two officials receiving additional charge.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved a major administrative reshuffle involving senior officials across several of its key departments, with 10 director general-level assignments changed under the authority’s chairman.
The reshuffle affects major functional areas including consumer protection, international relations, information and communication technology, wireless licensing, enforcement, strategy, audit, human resources and commercial affairs.
Ahmed Shameem Pirzada has been appointed Director General Consumer Protection, taking responsibility for the department that handles telecom-related consumer complaints and protection matters.
Dr. Khurram Ali Mehran has been appointed Director General International Relations and General Administration, combining responsibilities related to external engagement and administrative affairs.
Ehsan Yar Khan will serve as Director General Information and Communication Technology, while Nauman Khalid has been appointed Director General Wireless Licensing.
Aamir Shahzad has been posted as Director General Enforcement, and Amjad Mustafa Malik has been appointed Director General Strategy and Development. Yasir Yaqoob will serve as Director General Audit.
Two officials have been assigned additional responsibilities alongside their existing positions. Waseeullah Khan will continue as Director General Human Resources and Coordination while also holding additional charge of Director General Licensing and Regulations.
Tayyab bin Tahir Khan will retain his position as Director General Commercial Affairs and take additional charge of Director General Administration.
The changes cover several operational areas of telecom regulation, including consumer protection, licensing, enforcement, audit, administration and ICT. The assignments will place the newly appointed officials in charge of departments involved in the authority’s day-to-day regulatory and administrative functions.
The reshuffle comes as Pakistan’s telecommunications sector continues to require regulatory oversight across areas including licensing, consumer complaints, enforcement and technology-related matters.
PTA has not publicly detailed the reasons behind the timing or scope of the changes in the information provided. The practical impact of the reshuffle will depend on how responsibilities are transferred and how ongoing regulatory matters are handled under the new assignments.
The full list of appointments includes Ahmed Shameem Pirzada as DG Consumer Protection; Dr. Khurram Ali Mehran as DG International Relations and General Administration; Ehsan Yar Khan as DG ICT; Nauman Khalid as DG Wireless Licensing; Aamir Shahzad as DG Enforcement; Amjad Mustafa Malik as DG Strategy and Development; Yasir Yaqoob as DG Audit; Waseeullah Khan as DG Human Resources and Coordination with additional charge of DG Licensing and Regulations; and Tayyab bin Tahir Khan as DG Commercial Affairs with additional charge of DG Administration.
