Government Introduces Home-Based Digital Verification for Pensioners

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Government announces home-based pension verification alongside expanded social security, financial assistance and healthcare initiatives for senior citizens.

The government has announced a new digital verification facility that will allow pensioners to complete their proof-of-life verification from home, reducing the need for elderly citizens to repeatedly visit government or bank offices.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the initiative in his message on the International Day of Older Persons, observed on Oct. 1. He said the government remains committed to improving the welfare, protection and social security of senior citizens across Pakistan.

Under the proposed digital verification system, elderly pensioners will be able to complete their life certificate or proof-of-life requirements without making frequent visits to offices. The measure is aimed at making the pension process more convenient, particularly for senior citizens who may face difficulties travelling.

The government is also working to expand the coverage of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), with the aim of extending social security benefits to a larger number of eligible workers and older citizens.

Financial assistance for deserving senior citizens is another area under consideration. The government is considering increased support through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as part of broader efforts to assist vulnerable sections of society.

Healthcare services for older citizens are also among the government’s priorities. Authorities are working with provincial administrations to improve specialised healthcare services for senior citizens and expand health insurance coverage to provide elderly people with better access to medical treatment.

The government has further included implementation of the United Nations’ Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) among its priorities. Institutional reforms under a coordinated policy framework are being pursued to strengthen policies concerning the rights, welfare and social protection of older people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also called on young people to respect and support senior citizens, stressing the importance of caring for older family members and ensuring they receive the assistance they need.

He urged federal and provincial governments, civil society organisations and the private sector to work together on initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of senior citizens.
