ISLAMABAD: The first group of Sri Lanka’s cricket team has arrived in Islamabad ahead of the much-anticipated three-match T20I series against Pakistan, marking the beginning of the visitors’ tour.
A 13-member contingent reached the Pakistani capital and received a warm welcome at the airport. The group comprises eight players from Sri Lanka’s T20 squad and five members of the team management.
The remaining five players are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday, completing the touring squad ahead of the series.
The entire three-match series will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with the opening T20I scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9. The second match will be played on Oct. 11, while the third and final game is set for Oct. 13.
Sri Lanka’s arrival comes as preparations enter their final phase ahead of the opening match. The visitors will now have time to settle in, complete their preparations and adjust to local conditions before facing Pakistan.
The series is expected to draw significant attention from cricket fans in Pakistan, particularly with all three matches being staged at the same venue.
The tour also adds another chapter to the cricketing ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as Pakistan continues to host international cricket on home soil.
With the opening match only days away, attention will now turn to the final arrival of the Sri Lankan squad, training sessions and team combinations ahead of the first T20I in Rawalpindi.
