KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi reviews the province’s security, counterterrorism and public-order situation and directs authorities to ensure effective measures.
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the province’s security situation, including law and order, counterterrorism, public order and crime.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional Chief Secretary Home Ikramullah Khan, Additional Inspector General Special Branch Muhammad Kashif Alam, Joint Director General Intelligence Bureau Arshad Ali Khan, Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), DIG Operations Shakir Hussain Dawar and other relevant officials.
Officials briefed the governor on the overall security and law-and-order situation in the province, as well as the challenges faced by security institutions and measures being taken to address them.
Police officials also highlighted issues affecting the force, including delays in the procurement of modern weapons and manpower-related challenges. They said efforts were continuing to improve law and order despite the difficulties confronting security institutions.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing protest activities and the situation surrounding the long march. Officials briefed the governor on arrangements for maintaining public order and managing security-related challenges arising from the ongoing political activity.
CTD officials separately briefed Kundi on counterterrorism operations, intelligence-based measures and developments related to the province’s security situation.
The governor directed the relevant institutions to ensure effective measures to improve security and maintain law and order. He stressed that protecting the lives and property of citizens should remain a priority.
The meeting comes amid heightened political and security tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On Oct. 4, Kundi and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also discussed the province’s law-and-order situation, political developments and issues linked to the ongoing long march at the Governor House in Peshawar.
The Governor House said the two officials also discussed concerns about security risks associated with the long march and possible measures to protect the province from terrorism and disruption.
