Information Minister Attaullah Tarar says Pakistan will continue its fight against terrorism and alleges that thousands of TTP militants are sheltering in Afghanistan.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that more than 20,000 terrorists are present in Afghanistan, including over 6,000 members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and vowed that Pakistan would continue its fight against terrorism with full force.
In a post on X, Tarar welcomed what he described as a “positive change” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said the province’s residents wanted terrorism and extremism eliminated.
“The war against terrorism will be fought with full force,” Tarar said, reiterating that Pakistan had made the greatest sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
The minister alleged that terrorists were operating from safe havens on Afghan soil, where they were receiving various forms of training. He specifically claimed that more than 6,000 TTP militants were taking shelter in Afghanistan.
Tarar did not provide further details or supporting evidence for the figures in his post.
He said Pakistan wanted to establish lasting peace across the country and eliminate extremism and militancy in Afghanistan as well.
“People of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa want terrorism and extremism to end in the province,” Tarar said, emphasizing the need to address the security challenges affecting the region.
The minister’s remarks underscored the government’s stated position that combating terrorism requires sustained efforts and action against militant networks operating across the border.
His comments also highlighted Pakistan’s concerns about alleged militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan, particularly those attributed to the TTP, which Islamabad has repeatedly accused of using Afghan territory to plan and support attacks inside Pakistan.
Tarar said the country would continue working toward peace and security, expressing the government’s resolve to make Pakistan a peaceful place for its citizens.
