Karachi’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has registered a case alleging that social media posts by Iqrar Ul Hassan contained fabricated and defamatory content targeting state institutions and officials.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Karachi has registered a case against journalist and television host Iqrar Ul Hassan over social media posts that allegedly contained false, fabricated, anti-state and defamatory content targeting the state, its institutions and officials, according to a copy of the first information report (FIR).
The FIR, registered as No. 101/2026 at the Cybercrime Reporting Centre in Karachi on Oct. 10, 2026, cites Sections 9, 10, 20, 24 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, as amended in 2025.
According to the document, the case followed a source report dated Oct. 10, 2026, and an earlier inquiry numbered 1988/2026. The report states that the alleged offences began at 7:46 p.m. on Oct. 10 and continued afterward. The FIR was recorded at 11:30 p.m. the same day.
The agency alleges that Iqrar Ul Hassan, identified in the FIR as Syed Iqrar Ul Hassan, son of Syed Muhammad Ismail, used personal accounts on X, formerly Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to publish content intended to provoke the public against the state, its institutions and their officials.
The FIR identifies the accounts and cites specific posts on the three platforms as part of the case. It states that investigators examined publicly accessible material and identified posts that they allege contained false and fabricated content against the state and its institutions.
According to the complaint, the content was published or broadcast publicly without restrictions, potentially reaching audiences across Pakistan and abroad. The document further alleges that the posts portrayed the accused’s actions in a distorted manner and contained statements considered prejudicial to the integrity and solidarity of the federation.
The FIR also alleges that the content was intended to incite members of the public against the state and lawfully constituted authorities. These assertions represent the allegations recorded by the agency and have not been established as findings by a court in the document provided.
Assistant Director Rana Muhammad Faisal Munir Khan has been named as the investigating officer. The FIR states that there was no delay in recording the information.
The case has been registered under the cited provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, with further investigation assigned to the NCCIA officer named in the report.
The available image of the FIR ends before the final sentence of its narrative is complete. It does not establish the outcome of the investigation, whether any arrest has been made in this case, or whether a court has determined the allegations.
