Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the federal government offered resources and cooperation to successive PTI-led governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to combat terrorism and support provincial development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the federal government had offered full cooperation and resources to successive PTI-led governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to combat terrorism, stressing that the country could not remain a silent spectator if national stability and the economy were threatened.
Addressing a federal Apex Committee meeting on the National Action Plan at Governor House in Peshawar, Sharif said the federal government had extended similar offers during the tenures of former provincial chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the current leadership under Afridi.
“We are one and will work together to eliminate terrorism,” the prime minister said, describing the federal government’s offer of support. He added that all available resources would be provided to the province, provided they were used transparently for its development.
However, Sharif expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of progress despite those offers of cooperation.
He questioned whether the federal government should remain inactive if a political party acted against the country’s interests, warning against allowing Pakistan’s economy and society to suffer while those in authority remained silent.
“God forbid, if the economy and society are destroyed, should we remain silent spectators? This is simply not possible,” he said, emphasizing that no sensible nation could tolerate such a serious situation.
The prime minister described the government’s latest move as a final effort to address the challenges facing the province and the country.
During his address, Sharif thanked the leaders of allied political parties for their support, particularly President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
He also highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s historical and cultural significance, drawing attention to the serious challenges facing the province because of terrorism and a lack of basic facilities.
The meeting focused on the National Action Plan, the federal government’s counterterrorism framework. Sharif’s remarks underscored the need for cooperation between the federal government and the provincial administration to address security concerns and support development.
The prime minister’s statement placed particular emphasis on the transparent use of public resources, coordinated counterterrorism efforts and the responsibility of political leadership to protect national stability.
