Addressing the Federal Apex Committee meeting on the National Action Plan in Peshawar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calls for a comprehensive review of rising terrorism and stresses accountability for past decisions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a comprehensive review of the resurgence of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the return of militants after years of sacrifices for peace had undermined the efforts and losses endured by the nation.

Addressing a Federal Apex Committee meeting on the National Action Plan at the Governor House in Peshawar, the prime minister said Pakistan had paid a heavy price to establish peace and that the renewed threat of terrorism required serious examination.

Shehbaz described Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as one of Pakistan’s most beautiful provinces, home to a proud and resilient population. He said his visit was taking place under a system that had been introduced under difficult circumstances and expressed hope that collective efforts would help steer the province toward development and prosperity.

The prime minister also referred to a tragic incident in which a teacher and children were killed at a school. He prayed for the victims and said he had previously spoken to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gov. Faisal Karim Kundi about meeting the victims’ families and ensuring a transparent investigation.

Shehbaz said political families, children and mothers had endured immense suffering during Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism. He paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the fight, recalling how many had left home assuring their parents that they would return, only to make the ultimate sacrifice.

He said their deaths had left their own children orphaned but had helped protect millions of other children from a similar fate. He stressed that the sacrifices of security personnel must be respected and honored.

The prime minister criticized the decisions that, in his view, had allowed militants to return after peace had been achieved through years of sacrifices. He described those decisions as a serious failure to protect the national interest and said the country needed to examine how the situation had deteriorated.

Without detailing specific years or events, Shehbaz said public concerns, including education, health care and the protection of lives and property, had been sidelined while arrangements were made with militants. He argued that such an approach had contributed to the renewed threat of terrorism.

The meeting brought federal and provincial officials, senior military officers, police representatives and members of the advisory council together to discuss the security situation and the challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Shehbaz said the gathering was intended to address the circumstances behind the renewed violence. He emphasized the need for sustained collective efforts to improve security and move the province toward lasting peace, development and prosperity.
