Sargodha (Tahir Kamboh): Although the floodwaters have receded, the suffering of flood-affected residents of Mianwal Makhdoom village continues, with many families forced to live in extreme hardship months after the disaster.
The recent floods caused widespread destruction across Punjab, and Mianwal Makhdoom was among the worst-hit villages. Nearly half of the village was swept away by the river, while the remaining area was left uninhabitable. Residents say they are living without proper shelter, as many homes were destroyed, leaving neither roofs nor boundary walls intact.
Locals stated that survey teams and patwaris visited the area and conducted damage assessments, but the process remained limited to paperwork only. Despite the passage of four months, affected families claim they have received no financial assistance or relief.
Residents further alleged that a patwari distributed relief application forms and charged Rs500 from each applicant. However, they said their names were later removed from the relief lists without explanation. After repeatedly visiting various government offices, the victims say they have lost hope, as no authority has addressed their grievances.
The affected residents have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to intervene, provide immediate shelter for displaced families, ensure the release of promised relief funds, and order an inquiry into the alleged misconduct of the patwari and his facilitators, demanding strict action against those found responsible.
