Maryam Nawaz Orders Fire Hydrants in All High Rise Buildings Within 30 Days

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued strict instructions to deputy commissioners across the province, directing them to ensure the installation of fire hydrants in all commercial and high rise buildings within 30 days.

The directive follows a recent fire at a hotel in Lahore’s Gulberg area that claimed three lives and left seven people injured, though nearly 275 guests and staff were safely evacuated. The chief minister said the incident underscored the urgent need for comprehensive fire safety measures.

Maryam Nawaz ordered that all under-construction buildings must have fully functional fire safety systems before completion. She also directed authorities to keep fire hydrant prices fixed for the next 90 days to prevent profiteering amid increased demand.

She stressed that commercial plazas must be equipped with first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, automatic sprinklers and properly ventilated emergency staircases, preferably located outside buildings for safe evacuation. The chief minister strictly warned against storing boilers or hazardous materials in basements ordering immediate sealing of substandard boilers.

Highlighting risks in markets dealing with chemicals, plastics and garments, she directed authorities to remove encroachments and clear all entry and exit points to ensure smooth evacuation during emergencies.

Maryam Nawaz praised Rescue 1122 for its rapid response to the Gulberg fire noting that the team reached the site within five minutes, preventing a larger tragedy. She also expressed condolences over the recent Karachi Gul Plaza fire and assured support for the victims.
