ISLAMABAD: (Waseem Hashmi) Feb. 2, 2026: On Monday, Rear Adm. Shahin Mammadov, the Commander of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, paid a visit to the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad where he held talks with Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan Navy, Adm. Naveed Ashraf, on the issues of mutual interest and the maritime safety of the region.
When the visiting dignitary arrived at the Naval Headquarters he was received warmly by the naval chief. An ingeniously dressed group of the Pakistan Navy was on guard of honor to him. Later on, Rear Adm. Mammadov paid a visit of floral wreath at the Martyrs Monument and was introduced to the key staff officers at the headquarters.
In the meeting, the two chiefs of the navies shared their opinions on the current issues in maritime security of the region and discussed their possibilities of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of training and defense. They reiterated their efforts to broaden and deepen the meaning of the current defense relations between the two nations.
Also briefed to the Azerbaijan navy commander was on the current undertakings by the Pakistan Navy, the operational preparedness and its part and parcel in ensuring the security of the seas in the region.
There has been a long history of friendly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan which have been characterized by close cooperation especially in the defense industry. The arrival of Rear Adm. Mammadov will also serve the purpose of enhancing the bilateral relations as well as bringing about more cooperation between the navies of the two nations.
