ISLAMABAD:
Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been diagnosed with a blockage in a vein of his right eye, according to a medical report issued by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The report stated that the 74-year-old complained of reduced vision in his right eye, prompting a detailed ophthalmic examination conducted by a senior eye specialist at Adiala Jail, where Khan is currently incarcerated. The assessment included slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, measurement of intraocular pressure, laboratory tests and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina.
Doctors diagnosed Khan with right central retinal vein occlusion and advised hospital-based treatment. Following the recommendation, he was transferred to PIMS late Saturday night.
Hospital officials said the treatment plan, including an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, was explained to the patient and informed consent was obtained. The procedure was successfully carried out under sterile conditions and completed within approximately 20 minutes.
According to the report, Khan remained vitally stable throughout the procedure and was discharged with post-treatment care instructions. While his overall health was described as satisfactory, doctors confirmed that his right-eye vision has been affected due to the condition.
