Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed the strong and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Kuwait, saying that bilateral ties are expected to further expand through enhanced trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The prime minister made these remarks while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad marking the issuance of a digital banking licence to Raqami Islamic Digital Bank which has become Pakistan’s third licensed digital retail bank. He congratulated the bank’s management on achieving this milestone and expressed hope that Raqami would operate as a fully Sharia-compliant institution.
PM Shehbaz emphasised that the bank should play a constructive role in strengthening Pakistan’s banking sector by offering innovative inclusive and customer focused digital financial services. He noted that the launch of Raqami Islamic Digital Bank reflects growing investor confidence and will help deepen economic collaboration between Pakistan and Kuwait.
“This development will further strengthen economic ties between the two brotherly countries the prime minister said while also expressing gratitude to the Kuwaiti leadership for its continued support to Pakistan over the years.
Raqami Islamic Digital Bank Limited received a restricted banking licence from the State Bank of Pakistan in May 2025 under the Digital Banks Licensing and Regulatory Framework allowing it to commence pilot operations. The bank is backed by the Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company and Enertech Holding Company a subsidiary of Kuwait’s sovereign wealth fund the Kuwait Investment Authority.
