Citizens urged to use IJP Road bridges to keep children safe
Islamabad’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Hamza Humayun has urged residents to use pedestrian bridges along the busy IJP Road, warning that ignoring designated crossings is creating serious safety risks, particularly for children.
According to traffic authorities, seven to eight pedestrian bridges have been constructed along a one- to two-kilometer stretch of IJP Road to facilitate safe crossing. However, many pedestrians continue to cross the road directly, exposing themselves to fast-moving traffic.
The situation becomes especially concerning during school hours, when parents and guardians are often seen escorting young children across the road at unsafe points. Officials warn that such practices significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents. The danger is further compounded by motorcyclists who violate traffic rules, including driving on the wrong side of the road.
Traffic officials emphasized that using pedestrian bridges can prevent accidents and help promote a culture of road safety. Authorities also cautioned that legal action may be taken against parents or guardians who deliberately allow children to cross the road dangerously, as it violates traffic regulations and endangers lives.
