DI KHAN: At least four policemen including Station House Officer (SHO) Faheem Mumtaz were martyred on Wednesday when armed militants attacked a police party during a search operation in the Wana Budh area police officials said.
The operation was carried out within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Police Station following intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants. According to authorities, the attackers opened fire suddenly triggering an exchange of gunfire.
The martyred officers were identified as SHO Faheem Mumtaz Constable Irfan Khan Constable Ghulam Subhani, and Constable Wajahat. Three personnel including Paharpur Circle DSP Hafiz Adnan and ASI Tariq, sustained injuries and were shifted to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
A heavy police contingent led by District Police Officer (DPO) Sajad Ahmed Sahebzada reached the site and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack paid tribute to the fallen officers and assured full support for their families. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed sorrow, directing authorities to provide complete medical care to the injured.
Former Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur offered condolences and prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded officers.
