Khawaja Saad Rafique urges Government to ensure transparency and medical care for jailed Former Prime Minister
LAHORE: Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Khawaja Saad Rafique, has expressed concern over reports regarding the deteriorating health of former prime minister Imran Khan, stating that prisoners often suffer illnesses during incarceration regardless of prison conditions.
Rafique described reports of Khan’s vision being affected in one eye as troubling and emphasized that timely and effective medical treatment is a fundamental human right. He stated that safeguarding the rights of a political opponent becomes even more important when the individual is in custody.
He added that, in principle, Khan’s family or political party should not have been compelled to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek medical and humanitarian relief.
Rafique further said that recalling alleged mistreatment of political opponents during Khan’s tenure would not demonstrate political maturity at this stage. He urged the government and state institutions to take immediate steps, including issuing an official medical report about Khan’s condition, arranging meetings between Khan and his family, allowing access to doctors of Khan’s choice, and ensuring the best possible medical treatment.
