Parliament Sit-In Sparks Standoff with Police
ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan continued their sit-in inside Parliament on Friday, as heavy police contingents remained deployed at all entry gates, escalating tensions in the capital.
According to party representatives, authorities blocked attempts to deliver food to protesting members inside the building. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar arrived at one of the main gates carrying breakfast but was stopped after a heated exchange with police officials. He later attempted to access the premises from the rear side of Parliament, but officers again prevented the delivery.
Spokesperson Hussain Khan Zada condemned the police action, accusing authorities of confining lawmakers without allowing water or food supplies since the previous day. He added that Senator Falak Naz Chitrali had been unwell since Thursday night, raising concerns over the health of those inside.
Police have not immediately issued a detailed public response regarding the restrictions.
