ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of their convictions and sentences in the Toshakhana 2 case their lawyers said.
Barristers Salman Safdar and Salman Akram Raja submitted the pleas under the Criminal Procedure Code requesting the court to stay the December 20, 2025 conviction and grant bail until the final decision on their appeals.
In December 2025 a special court sentenced the couple to 17 years in prison each along with fines of Rs16.4 million after finding them guilty of the under priced purchase and sale of a luxury Bulgari jewellery set from the state gift repository.
The petitions cite medical and humanitarian grounds, highlighting Khan’s serious right-eye condition. Medical reports submitted to the court state that a blood clot has significantly impaired his vision, reducing sight in one eye to approximately 15 per cent. His counsel argued that adequate treatment is not possible in prison.
The legal team also raised objections to the trial court’s interpretation of legal provisions and requested early hearings in related appeals including the Al Qadir Trust corruption case.
Court officials indicated hearings may be scheduled next week.
