Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Yousuf has expressed concerns over the current performance of Pakistan’s T20 team stating that senior players Shaheen Afridi Babar Azam and Shadab Khan have passed their prime. He emphasized that the team now needs new performers to compete effectively on the international stage.
Yousuf added that victories against weaker teams are meaningless if the squad cannot deliver against top ranked opponents.
His comments come after Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat against India cricket team in the ICC T20 World Cup losing by 61 runs. In the match at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium India posted 175/7 in their 20 overs and Pakistan could only manage 114 runs in 18 overs while chasing 176.
In the game Shadab Khan conceded 17 runs in a single over without taking any wickets Shaheen Afridi took one wicket for 31 runs in two overs and Babar Azam managed just 5 runs. The defeat has intensified calls for a revamp of the T20 squad with experts urging Pakistan to groom younger talent capable of competing at the highest level.
