Pakistan has lost one of its most revered literary figures, poet Syed Salman Gilani who passed away today after a prolonged illness. According to his family Gilani aged 74, had been battling heart and liver ailments and was undergoing treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital.
A distinguished poet accomplished Naat reciter and exceptional prose writer Gilani’s work has left an indelible mark on Urdu literature. His contributions to Naat poetry in particular, have touched the hearts of millions making his voice a source of spiritual inspiration for countless admirers.
Expressing grief over his passing, Maulana Fazlur Rehman head of Jamiat Ulema e Islam lauded Gilani’s literary achievements. He stated that Salman Gilani was not only a towering poet and skilled Naat Khwan but also a cherished member of their extended family.
Gilani’s death marks the end of an era in Pakistani poetry and literature, leaving a legacy of devotion, creativity and linguistic mastery. Tributes continue to pour in from literary circles politicians and admirers, highlighting the profound impact of his work on contemporary Urdu literature.
He is survived by his family friends and a generation of poetry lovers who continue to celebrate his timeless contributions.
