In the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Pakistan posted a formidable total of 212 for 8 against Sri Lanka thanks to a magnificent century by Sahibzada Farhan. The match being played in Kandy saw Sri Lanka win the toss and opt to field first.
Pakistan’s innings was anchored by Farhan who scored a brilliant 100 runs and Fakhar Zaman who contributed 84. The duo stitched together a record 176 run partnership putting Sri Lanka under immense pressure. No other Pakistani batter managed to reach double figures with Khawaja Nafay scoring 2 Shadab Khan 7 while Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Agha were dismissed for ducks.
This marked Farhan’s second century of the tournament making him the first cricketer to score two hundreds in a single T20 World Cup edition.
For this crucial encounter Pakistan left out Babar Azam Saim Ayub and Salman Mirza bringing in Naseem Shah Khawaja Nafay, and Abrar Ahmed.
To secure a semifinal spot, Pakistan must bowl Sri Lanka out for 147 or less; otherwise, New Zealand will advance on superior net run rate. England have already qualified from the group.
