Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif said that the savings generated through government cost-cutting and austerity measures will be used to provide relief to the public.
The prime minister chaired a meeting in Islamabad to review the impact of petroleum product prices and the implementation of government saving measures. The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, it was decided that salaries of employees working in government-owned and government-supported autonomous institutions will be reduced by 5 to 30 percent. According to officials, the savings generated from the gradual salary reductions will be used to provide relief to the public.
It was also decided that government representatives serving on the boards of corporations and other institutions will no longer receive meeting fees. These funds will instead be added to the pool of government savings aimed at supporting public welfare measures.
