Thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran to attend the funeral prayers of senior Iranian figures reportedly killed in recent attacks. Among those laid to rest were Ali Larijani a prominent political leader and close adviser to Ali Khamenei, and Gholam Reza Soleimani, head of Iran’s Basij forces.
The funeral prayers were held at Tehran’s Enghelab Square where thousands of people participated, expressing grief and solidarity. On the same day, funeral rites were also performed for Iranian sailors who were reportedly killed after a U.S. submarine targeted an Iranian naval vessel near Sri Lanka.
Iranian officials strongly condemned the attacks and warned of serious consequences. Military leaders, including senior commanders, stated that the response would be decisive and unprecedented. Iran’s leadership has vowed to avenge the deaths at all costs signaling a potential escalation in regional tensions.
President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated that the country would deliver a firm response while military chief Amir Hatami emphasized that retaliation is inevitable.
The developments have heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns about further escalation and instability in the Middle East.
