Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reportedly points to ‘iPhone Duo’ as the name of Apple’s long-rumoured foldable, with the device potentially priced from $2,000.
Apple may have chosen an unexpected name for its first foldable iPhone, with a new report suggesting the long-rumoured device could be launched as the iPhone Duo.
For years, Apple’s anticipated foldable smartphone has been informally referred to as the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra” in reports and speculation. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reportedly pointed to iPhone Duo as the name Apple could use for the device.
The reported naming development comes just hours before Apple’s September 9 product event, where attention is expected to focus on the company’s upcoming hardware announcements.
Apple has not officially confirmed the name of its first foldable iPhone. The company has also yet to confirm the device’s specifications, launch details or pricing.
Why ‘iPhone Duo’?
The reported name could refer to the foldable’s two-screen design.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is widely expected to feature a book-style form factor. In its closed position, the device would have an external display similar to a conventional smartphone. When opened, it would reveal a significantly larger internal screen, giving users a phone-and-tablet-style experience in a single device.
The “Duo” branding could therefore highlight the device’s dual-display concept while giving Apple a distinct identity rather than adopting the “Fold” terminology already associated with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.
The name itself has appeared in earlier speculation, but Gurman’s reported comments have added fresh weight to the possibility as Apple’s product event approaches.
The device is also expected to occupy a premium position in Apple’s smartphone lineup. Reports cited in the original coverage suggest the foldable could start at around $2,000, with higher-storage configurations potentially approaching $3,000.
If launched at those prices, the device would represent a major premium over Apple’s conventional iPhone models and could position the foldable as one of the company’s most expensive consumer products.
