Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s spokesman Murtaza Wahab has rejected media reports claiming the PPP chairman is engaged or planning to marry in Europe.
KARACHI: Reports about Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s alleged engagement and possible marriage have sparked widespread speculation, prompting his spokesman to reject the claims as false and baseless.
The reports claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal’s father, had travelled to Liechtenstein, a small European country between Switzerland and Austria, to discuss or finalise a marriage proposal for his son.
According to the reports, Zardari was allegedly accompanied by other family members and had travelled to the country to discuss marriage arrangements and potentially settle a date for the wedding.
The reports further claimed that the prospective bride was from Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, and that Bilawal’s wedding could take place toward the end of this year.
However, Murtaza Wahab, Karachi mayor and spokesman for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, strongly rejected the reports.
In a post on X, Wahab said the reports concerning Bilawal’s engagement or marriage were false and baseless, effectively dismissing the speculation surrounding the PPP chairman’s personal life.
The clarification came after the reports attracted attention on social media and in sections of the Pakistani media, where details about the alleged proposal and the Zardari family’s purported visit to Liechtenstein were widely discussed.
Liechtenstein’s reported involvement added an unusual international dimension to the speculation. The landlocked European country is situated between Switzerland and Austria and has Vaduz as its capital.
Bilawal, born in 1988, is the son of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari. He has led the PPP since 2007 and remains a prominent figure in Pakistani politics.
Official National Assembly records list Bilawal as an elected member representing NA-194, Larkana-I. He has also continued to participate in parliamentary and political activities in recent months.
At present, there is no confirmed announcement from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari or his family regarding an engagement or wedding.
