Lahore: Police have registered a case against unknown persons after Canadian national Hamza Ahmed was allegedly abducted from Defence A area in Lahore. The incident has prompted a special investigation into the disappearance.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Lahore, Muhammad Faisal Kamran confirmed that investigations were underway from multiple angles and significant progress was expected soon. A special team, led by SP Cantt Division Akhlaq Ullah Tarar including the ASI of Defence Circle and SHO Defence A Khurram Shehzad is handling the case.
Ahmed’s friend Yousaf Rashid lodged the complaint. According to the FIR Ahmed a PhD student, arrived in Pakistan on February 13 for research purposes and was staying at Rashid’s residence. He had booked a private cab on February 19 but never returned. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to locate him.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed grave concern over the disappearance. In a statement on X HRCP emphasized that Hamza Ahmed, a political science student at the University of Toronto must be traced immediately and safely recovered. Colleagues in Lahore alleged he was abducted by unidentified individuals and the commission urged swift action by authorities.
