High-level discussions at the 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum focused on climate action, biodiversity, scientific research and traditional medicine, reinforcing Pakistan-China strategic cooperation.
Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik met Xizang Autonomous Region Vice Chairman Xu Zitao on the sidelines of the 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum, where both sides discussed expanding cooperation in environmental protection, climate change, scientific research and traditional knowledge.
During the meeting, the Pakistani delegation received a detailed briefing on Xizang’s history, culture and economic development. Chinese officials highlighted that environmental protection remains a central pillar of the region’s long-term development strategy while also outlining its cultural and religious diversity.
Dr. Malik said the strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China continues to grow stronger, emphasizing the importance of increasing collaboration in climate action, scientific research and institutional capacity building.
The two sides also exchanged views on protecting mountain ecosystems and biodiversity, recognizing the shared environmental characteristics of Pakistan and Xizang. Dr. Malik noted that both regions face similar ecological challenges, creating opportunities for joint research and sustainable development initiatives.
The meeting also explored prospects for cooperation in Tibetan medicine and traditional sciences. The federal minister observed that Gilgit-Baltistan and Xizang share similarities in traditional medical knowledge, which could serve as a foundation for future academic and research partnerships.
