The FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Karachi is investigating complaints from four citizens who allege that an agent collected Rs76,400 during the protector clearance process.
KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an inquiry into alleged bribery, illegal payments and procedural irregularities in the protector clearance process at the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) in Karachi after four citizens complained that an agent had collected a total of Rs76,400 from them.
The complainants, identified as Ahmed Mukhtar, Muhammad Naveed, Asad Sabir and Ahad Hussain, alleged that the money was collected by an agent in connection with their protector clearance.
According to details of the case, the FIA Immigration Task Team conducted an initial assessment of the complaints before referring the matter to the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC) in Karachi for further investigation.
As part of the preliminary inquiry, an FIA team visited the BEOE office in Block 6 of the Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS), Karachi. The complainants accompanied the team during the visit.
During the visit, the citizens identified Nadeem Ahmed, a former BEOE employee. The FIA team subsequently questioned him as part of its preliminary investigation into the allegations.
The initial complaints named an agent, Nadeem Arain, as the person who allegedly collected the money. The case details also identify Nadeem Ahmed, a former bureau employee, as the individual questioned by the FIA team.
The allegations center on whether illegal payments were collected during the protector clearance process and whether any procedural irregularities occurred at the emigration office.
The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle is handling the matter following the initial assessment by the Immigration Task Team. The inquiry is intended to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged payments and examine the complaints submitted by the four citizens.
No findings establishing wrongdoing have been provided in the available case details. The allegations against the individuals involved remain subject to investigation, and the questioning of a former employee does not by itself establish guilt.
Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
