KARACHI: (Web Desk) Technical and investigative teams arrived at Gul Plaza on Saturday to assess the building following the deadly fire on January 17, which has claimed at least 71 lives. Rescue operations continue, with many still missing.
Engineers from NED university and the Pakistan Engineering Council, alongside Deputy Commissioner South, inspected the ground floor, examining interior areas, fire-damaged walls, shop structures, and merchandise. Karachi SSP Arif Aziz was also present.
Rescue Commander Hameer Waheed said that although cash and different valuables have been recovered and passed over to authorities, access to the basement and debris-laden areas remains challenging. No new human remains were recovered overnight. shops previously searched showed no additional casualties.
Authorities emphasized coordination between rescue and technical teams to assess structural safety and identify factors contributing to the tragedy. Investigators and engineers are expected to submit findings in the coming days to guide the next segment of rescue operations and potential legal proceedings.
The collaborative attempt aims to ensure all recovered belongings is accounted for even as presenting an intensive understanding of the building’s condition to prevent future disasters.
