Cinematographer Reveals the Hidden Struggles Behind HBO’s Harry Potter TV Series

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Harry Potter reboot cinematographer Adriano Goldman says strict child actor regulations have transformed the production process, forcing the crew to work at an extraordinary pace while protecting quality.

Production of the highly anticipated Harry Potter television reboot is moving ahead, but the series’ creative team is facing significant behind-the-scenes challenges. Cinematographer Adriano Goldman has revealed that working with a cast of young actors requires an entirely different filmmaking approach due to strict regulations governing child labor and education.

Speaking during an interview on Andre Pilli’s YouTube channel, Goldman explained that the newly cast lead actors—Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger—must divide their time between filming and classroom studies. As a result, the young performers are available for only limited periods on set, sometimes as little as 90 minutes at a time.

Goldman described the production schedule as “brutal,” saying the crew must move at an exceptionally fast pace to complete scenes before the children return to their lessons. He acknowledged that while the production has extensive resources, the compressed filming windows inevitably increase pressure on every department.

To make the most of the limited shooting time, the production team reportedly prepares scenes while the child actors are attending classes. Once they arrive on set, multiple cameras—sometimes as many as six—are used simultaneously to capture different angles in a single take, reducing the need for repeated performances.

The cinematographer also noted that the series is being filmed heavily out of sequence, adding another layer of complexity to the production. Careful planning is required to ensure continuity despite scenes being recorded in a non-linear order.
