Heavy monsoon showers brought cooler temperatures to Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that more rainfall is expected in several northern regions.
Heavy monsoon rains swept across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several parts of Lahore on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief from persistent heat and humidity while causing traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The rain began in the morning across the twin cities and continued intermittently throughout the day. Residents welcomed the significant drop in temperatures after days of uncomfortable weather. Similar showers were recorded in various neighborhoods of Lahore, creating pleasant conditions across the provincial capital.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the current spell is being driven by a weak monsoon system interacting with a westerly weather system over northern Pakistan. This weather pattern is expected to increase rainfall activity in several regions.
The PMD has forecast additional rain at isolated locations in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Some areas could receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, raising the possibility of localized flooding and temporary disruptions.
Officials have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant as heavy rain may lead to water accumulation. Motorists have also been urged to drive cautiously on slippery roads and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
