India defeated Pakistan 4-3 in the first semifinal of the Asian Games hockey competition in Nagoya, securing victory after Pakistan staged a strong comeback from a three-goal deficit.
India built a 3-0 lead before Pakistan responded with three goals to bring the match level at 3-3. However, India scored in the final moments to regain the lead and seal a 4-3 victory.
Harmanpreet Singh led India’s scoring with two goals, while Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek scored one goal each.
Pakistan’s comeback was led by Abu Bakar Mahmood, Hannan Shahid and Rana Waheed, who each found the net once.
Pakistan’s recovery from 3-0 down brought the semifinal level at 3-3 and kept the contest finely balanced until the closing stages. India’s late goal ultimately decided the match and sent the Indian team through to the final.
The result ended Pakistan’s campaign in the semifinal stage, while India advanced to the Asian Games hockey final.
