ISLAMABAD: (Click Pakistan) Islamabad authorities have decided to launch a strict crackdown against drivers operating online taxi and bike-hailing services without proper registration, officials said Monday.
The district administration has finalized a policy requiring formal registration of all online taxi services operating in the federal capital. Under the new policy, complete data of drivers and vehicles will be collected and maintained through a digital automation system.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner East to contact chief executive officers of all ride-hailing companies to ensure compliance with the new registration process. The secretary of the Islamabad Transport Authority has also been instructed to initiate enforcement actions against unregistered bike-hailing drivers.
Officials said that the registration process will be carried out through a mobile application, which will also provide Islamabad Police full access to driver and vehicle data. After registration, drivers will be required to upload passenger details through the application before starting any ride.
Authorities have made it mandatory for drivers to record passengers’ national identity card numbers. Drivers will not be allowed to transport passengers without entering the required identification details into the system.
According to the district administration, the official registration process will begin from Tuesday. The move is aimed at improving passenger safety, ensuring accountability of drivers and strengthening monitoring of ride-hailing services across Islamabad.
