Australia’s aggressive batter Fraser-McGurk secures a spot in Rawalpindi squad after going unsold in first PSL draft
KARACHI: Australia’s hard-hitting batter Jake Fraser-McGurk has been confirmed as a direct signing for the Rawalpindi franchise ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, scheduled from March 26 to May 3.
Fraser-McGurk, 23, has represented Australia in eight T20 Internationals and has made a mark in major franchise leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), and Major League Cricket (MLC). He has featured in 98 T20 matches, scoring 1,852 runs at a strike rate of 149.11, including 11 half-centuries.
Initially, Fraser-McGurk was listed among the top-tier batters with a base price of Rs42 million at the league’s first-ever player auction held in Lahore. However, he went unsold in both the main and accelerated rounds.
Following the franchise’s acquisition by new owners, Rawalpindi opted to secure the Australian international through a direct signing. The signing amount has not yet been disclosed.
The revamped Rawalpindi franchise had previously retained Mohammad Rizwan, Zaman Khan, Yasir Khan, and Sam Billings while releasing other players to participate in the auction with a full USD 1.6 million purse, under the oversight of an independent PCB panel.
