Pakistan’s National Emergency Operations Centre reports a new polio case in Karachi East as a nationwide vaccination campaign is scheduled for Nov. 2-8, 2026.

Pakistan has reported a new polio case in Karachi East District, Sindh, bringing the country’s total number of polio cases in 2026 to seven, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

The latest case marks the first polio case reported from Karachi since December 2024, highlighting the importance of continued vaccination efforts to protect children against the incurable but vaccine-preventable disease.

According to the National EOC, five of the seven polio cases reported across Pakistan this year have been recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the remaining two have been reported in Sindh.

The latest case in Karachi East comes ahead of a Sub-National Polio Vaccination Campaign scheduled to run from Nov. 2 to 8, 2026. The campaign will cover 97 districts across the country, including all districts of Karachi.

During the weeklong campaign, health teams will aim to vaccinate more than 23.9 million children under the age of 5 against poliovirus.

The National EOC has urged parents and caregivers to ensure that their children receive polio drops during every vaccination campaign. It has also emphasized the importance of completing the full routine immunization course on time, alongside polio vaccination, to help protect children against preventable diseases.

Polio is an incurable disease that can cause permanent paralysis. However, vaccination can prevent infection and help protect children from its potentially lifelong consequences. Repeated vaccination campaigns are an important part of efforts to protect children and prevent the spread of the virus.

The National EOC has called on all segments of society to support Pakistan’s polio eradication efforts. Public cooperation, particularly parents’ participation in vaccination campaigns, remains essential to ensuring that eligible children receive their doses.

With the latest case reported in Karachi East, the upcoming November campaign will provide another opportunity to reach children across the targeted districts and strengthen protection against poliovirus.

Health authorities continue to encourage families to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that children under 5 receive polio drops whenever campaigns are conducted. Parents are also urged to keep their children’s routine immunizations up to date.

The National EOC’s appeal comes as Pakistan continues efforts to eliminate polio through vaccination and public participation.
