Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has strongly condemned a recent security incident in Tirah where civilians were reportedly struck by gunfire during operations conducted by local security forces.
According to Afridi four security personnel were killed and five others injured in the incident. He described the civilian casualties as collateral damage and attributed the situation to negligence and lack of discipline among the forces stationed in the area. Afridi emphasized that such events are unacceptable and promised accountability measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Chief Minister assured the provincial government’s full support to the families of both the deceased and injured stating that they will not be left alone during this difficult period. Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to civilian casualties while security protocols in Tirah and nearby regions are being reviewed.
Officials also noted that Pakistan had recently conducted intelligence-based operations against seven suspected terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan, following increased militant attacks in Bajaur and Bannu. The government stressed that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorism against Pakistan and urged the international community to ensure implementation of the Doha Agreement to address regional security concerns.
