The projects focus on healthcare, education, clean drinking water, roads and urban development, while the chief minister also outlined PTI’s upcoming political plans.
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Sunday inaugurated five development projects worth more than Rs2 billion in Jamrud, District Khyber, aiming to improve healthcare, education, road infrastructure, water supply and urban facilities in the merged tribal districts.
The development package includes the construction of a Nursing College in Jamrud at a cost of Rs636 million, AI-enabled classrooms at the Institute of Applied Sciences for Rs32 million, rehabilitation and solarisation of 21 drinking water supply schemes worth Rs502 million, the beautification of Jamrud Bazaar for Rs430 million, and the widening and rehabilitation of the 10-kilometre Takhta Beg Road in Bara for Rs424 million.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Afridi said the overwhelming public mandate he received had made him the first chief minister from the merged tribal districts, adding that the confidence shown by voters had increased his responsibility to ensure transparent and balanced development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He described the projects as the rightful share of the people of the region, saying the provincial government remained committed to expanding access to quality healthcare, education, clean drinking water, improved roads and modern civic infrastructure in underserved areas.
During his address, the chief minister also commented on the political situation surrounding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He said the party leadership continued to face challenges and reiterated PTI’s position regarding former prime minister Imran Khan’s legal and constitutional efforts.
Afridi said the party had exhausted attempts at reconciliation and would continue its political campaign through public mobilisation. He also announced that PTI would hold a major public gathering in Peshawar on August 5, urging supporters to participate in large numbers.
