The actress declined to engage with personal and controversial questions, prompting debate over interview ethics in Pakistan’s entertainment industry
Meera, a prominent Pakistani film actress, walked out of a podcast interview after facing a series of controversial and personal questions from journalist Irshad Bhatti, sparking widespread criticism on social media and within the entertainment industry.
The incident occurred during a promotional appearance for her upcoming film Psycho, which is scheduled for release on Eid ul Adha. The film features Shaan Shahid in a leading role alongside Meera, with a supporting cast that includes Javed Sheikh. The project marks another major release for Meera following her role in the film Baaji, directed by Saqib Malik.
During the podcast, Bhatti asked Meera a series of questions related to her personal life and past controversies, including references to alleged relationships, marriage prospects, and previous incidents. The line of questioning quickly shifted away from the film’s promotion, making the conversation increasingly uncomfortable.
In response, Meera attempted to redirect the discussion toward her work, emphasizing the film’s storyline and cast. She highlighted her involvement in Psycho and urged audiences to watch the project. However, the host continued to probe into sensitive topics, including past controversies and allegations, while repeatedly referring to her in a derogatory manner.
Despite maintaining composure initially, Meera ultimately chose not to engage further and walked out of the interview. Clips from the podcast soon went viral, igniting debate over professional boundaries and the treatment of artists during media interactions.
Actress Mishi Khan also weighed in on the controversy, criticizing Bhatti’s approach and expressing support for Meera. She said it was disappointing to see such questions directed at an actress promoting her film after a long time.
Mishi Khan urged interviewers to focus on artists’ professional achievements rather than revisiting past controversies. She also praised Meera for maintaining her composure during the exchange, noting that the situation could have escalated further.
The incident has reignited discussions about ethical journalism and the responsibilities of media professionals in Pakistan’s entertainment landscape, particularly during promotional appearances.
