Zubair’s title-winning campaign at the Esports World Cup, held from Aug. 5-8, was particularly remarkable because his journey did not begin as a straightforward run to the trophy. After narrowly navigating the early stages, the Pakistani player found his rhythm when the tournament entered its decisive rounds.

One of his biggest tests came in the second group stage, where Zubair defeated fellow Pakistani competitor Arslan “Ash” Siddique, a globally recognized Tekken player.

The rivalry continued into the semifinals on Saturday. In a dramatic nine-game contest, Zubair edged Ash 5-4 to book his place in the grand final.

The championship match, however, was far less competitive. Zubair delivered a dominant performance against LowHigh, winning five consecutive games without conceding one. The 5-0 sweep turned an unexpected tournament run into a world championship triumph.

The Esports World Cup highlighted the upset on social media, describing Zubair as a player who “came out of nowhere and took the crown.”

The victory also delivered a major financial reward, with Zubair taking home $250,000 for finishing as the tournament champion.

Ash finished fourth after losing the third-place match to Australia’s Yagami. His campaign followed another major achievement earlier this year, when the Lahore-born star won the 2026 Evo championship in Las Vegas in June. That victory marked his fourth consecutive Evo title.

Zubair’s breakthrough adds further momentum to Pakistan’s growing reputation in international esports. His victories over two established names, particularly his semifinal win against Ash, underline the depth of Pakistani talent in competitive fighting games.

The Esports World Cup brings together leading players across major gaming titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends, Street Fighter and Valorant.
