OIC convenes urgent session to address Israel’s settlement and annexation policies in the West Bank
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced an emergency meeting of its Open-ended Executive Committee at the Foreign Ministers’ level, scheduled for February 26 at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah.
The session, reported by Qatar Tribune, responds to recent Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which the OIC described as illegal attempts to expand settlements, advance annexation, and impose sovereignty over Palestinian lands.
In a statement Sunday, the OIC said the meeting aims to coordinate a unified stance among member states and explore practical measures to counter these Israeli policies. The organization specifically highlighted Israel’s recent move to register and settle land under the designation of “state property” in the West Bank, a step seen as part of a broader strategy to alter the region’s legal, political, and demographic structure.
“These measures further undermine the prospects of a viable two-state solution,” the OIC said, reiterating its opposition to actions it calls violations of international law. The emergency session is expected to bring together foreign ministers from the 57 member body to discuss diplomatic, legal, and collective strategies to protect Palestinian rights and territorial integrity.
