Information Minister Attaullah Tarar says investigations into a detained digital marketing operator uncovered an alleged India-linked network that financed online disinformation campaigns targeting Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has claimed that security agencies uncovered an alleged India-linked digital network involved in spreading anti-Pakistan content through coordinated social media campaigns.
Speaking during a special media interaction, Tarar said a digital marketing service provider was arrested by Pakistani security agencies some time ago. According to the minister, investigators found that the individual’s digital operations were allegedly connected to India and that payments for promoting anti-Pakistan content originated from across the border.
Tarar alleged that the investigation revealed the use of bot farms to amplify misinformation and disinformation targeting Pakistan, its sovereignty, the government, the armed forces, the Chief of Army Staff, and other state institutions.
The information minister further claimed that the suspect disclosed receiving a significant amount of content related to the Joint Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Tarar alleged that the committee was attempting to weaken Pakistan’s relationship with Kashmir and undermine the Kashmir cause.
He also accused the group of promoting violence and claimed its actions had resulted in the deaths of Kashmiri police personnel during protests. According to Tarar, the organization pursued a violent agenda that did not represent the interests of the people of Kashmir.
The minister said Pakistan possesses what he described as “irrefutable evidence” linking the alleged campaign to India. He further claimed that social media content critical of Pakistan was promoted through paid digital marketing campaigns funded from India.
Tarar alleged that the objective of the campaign was to create instability in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, weaken public trust in Pakistan, and spread hate-based disinformation against the country’s leadership and institutions.
